Ayurveda, Slow Travel & a Summer Festival from The Silver Nomad

Ayurveda, Slow Travel &
a Summer Festival

Hey there, Reader

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about slower ways of travelling — the kind that leave you feeling restored rather than exhausted.

One of the experiences that has stayed with me most over the years has been discovering Ayurveda in India and Sri Lanka.

It’s far more than spa treatments and herbal oils; it’s a centuries-old approach to wellbeing that encourages you to slow down, reconnect, and travel more mindfully.

As someone who is usually juggling blog posts, photography, editing, and travel planning, I sometimes forget how important it is to properly pause. Ayurveda reminded me of that.

Featured Article of the Week

This week’s featured read is all about a Longevity Ayurveda retreat I took with Rina Golan, in the beautiful grounds of West Lexham in Norfolk.

It covers what an Ayruvedic retreat is, what to expect, and why it can completely change the way you think about wellness travel.

Whether you’re curious about Ayurvedic retreats, treatments, food, or simply the philosophy behind it all, I hope this inspires you to explore a gentler style of travel.

3 Things I’m Loving This Week

  • Quiet mornings with an espresso and my travel planning notebooks
  • Reading a book, yes, a physical book instead of online. I am currently reading Maggie O'Farrell's Portrait of a Marriage based in Florence and Ferrara in the 16th Century
  • Soaking up the sights and sounds of Ravenna

Travel Tip of the Week

If you’re visiting wellness retreats or cultural destinations, try not to over-plan every day. Some of the best travel moments happen when you leave space for rest, wandering, and unexpected conversations.

Festival Question for You

Have you ever been to a festival? Have you got any tips for me?

I’m heading to Lakefest this August and would love to hear your advice — especially from seasoned festival-goers! Do drop me an email with your tips!

If you fancy joining me, you can find all the details here: Lakefest Official Website. Acts include Madness, Example, Bananarama, Scouting for Girls and the one and only, Chesney Hawkes!

And if you book using my discount code: Lakefest SNLF25, you’ll get a discount on tickets.

I’d genuinely love to know: What’s the best festival you’ve ever been to?

Until next week

I am headed back to the UK today from my two weeks in Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. I have so many things to share with you, so next week's email will be filled with Italy!

See you next week!

From India to Sri Lanka Travels & Updates from The Silver Nomad BLOG INSTAGRAM TIKTOK X FACEBOOK Hi there, Reader August has been a whirlwind of colour, culture and discovery! I’ve been travelling through India, exploring the temples of Tamil Nadu, the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, and the fascinating history of Madhya Pradesh. Each region has left me with unforgettable experiences (and plenty of notes for new blog posts!). As September begins, I’ve hopped over to Sri Lanka to do some...

Hi there! I can't believe we are nearly at middle of May already! This last year has been a rollercoaster for me. I fully expected to be spending the year travelling as a full-time digital nomad. However, my parents needed me and I set aside my blogging and adventures to care for them. I know I said in my last newsletter that I was catching up on writing, but sadly my stepfather died and I had to put my family first. After a few turbulent months, I am back to writing and Monday 15th will see...

Hi there! Belated Happy New Year! I realise that it has been quite a while since you last heard from me. 2022 was a weird year for me. It started out full of promise with lots of exciting travel planned and I was ready to become a full-time digital nomad. However circumstances changed and I spent most of the year in the Borders of Scotland caring for my parents. My head was so full of ensuring my parents were okay that my creativity and writing nosedived and I hardly wrote any posts during...
